USEFUL SHOOTING INFORMATION
Dogs
The shoot organizers have their own dogs for picking up but if any gun wishes to bring a dog he
or she is welcome to do so. We do reserve the right however to exclude it
from the shoot if we consider it is disturbing the birds. Unfortunately we
cannot offer kennel facilities but dogs are welcome in the hotel itself
excluding the restaurant.
Drying Room and Gun Storage
We have an efficient drying room and a gun cabinet for storing your guns.
Cartridges
These are of course a matter of personal choice but for snipe we recommend 7
or 8 shot. If you run short there is a well-stocked shop - Tamar Field &
Stream - opposite the hotel. Highly-experienced gunmaker, David Kent, who
has worked with Boss, Holland & Holland and Purdey operates from the shop
alongside two other gunsmiths.
Insurance
If you are not already a member of the British Association for Shooting and
Conservation (BASC), then we must insist that you take out your own
insurance cover for third-party indemnity to £1,000,000. Because it is so
important, we ask for your written assurance on this before you join the
shoot. We also ask that you ensure your personal insurance covers your guns
while away from home, as we do not hold ourselves responsible for loss or
damage to them while you are with us. We do not permit automatic guns to be
used.
Deposit
We require a deposit of 50% with the reservation and the balance to be paid
two weeks before arrival.
Gun Permits
When bringing shotguns and rifles into the UK a permit is required by the
police. If shooting from The Arundell Arms, this can be organised through
us.
